Notice of storage for temporary modular housing units
This month, a number of deconstructed temporary modular housing units will be moved to səmiq̓ʷəʔelə for storage. They are being relocated from a site in Vancouver that will be redeveloped into long-term housing. These modular unit shells are not in habitable condition and will be stored at səmiq̓ʷəʔelə until they can be moved to a location with the necessary infrastructure to create safe, functional housing.
The modular unit shells will be delivered one at a time using a truck and crane. They will be stored at two sites, the Old Transportation Station (OTS) near the roundabout on Clover Street, as well as the Old Soccer Field off Campion Way near Connelly Lodge.
Work to prepare both sites has begun, with the modular shells intended to arrive as early as August 25. Noise associated with site preparation and heavy machinery may occur between 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, and between 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Work will be done to modify the access road to the Old Soccer Field site. Exterior fencing at Connelly Lodge will be temporarily removed during this process. Parking at Hillside will also be affected, and tenants will be temporarily assigned street parking along Oak Crescent.
Work associated with relocating the modular shells to səmiq̓ʷəʔelə is expected to take place until October 2025.
