Bears on site – use caution

October 07 2021

Fall is the season where bears are particularly eager to pick up scraps of human food. The bounty of summer is no longer available, and bears need to store up reserves for hibernating through the winter.

This year a bear family has taken interest in səmiq̓ʷəʔelə. A mother bear and two cubs have been doing rounds, and we’d like to ensure that bears and humans co-exist peacefully.

Please take extra caution if you’re spending time on-site. As always, keep dogs leashed and small children close. Garbage and food scraps should be taken home or discarded in the large animal-safe bins in the daycare parking lot.

If you are walking in wooded areas, it is wise to go with a partner or group. Please avoid startling bears by making plenty of noise while walking through areas with poor sightlines, like forested areas.

If you have questions or concerns for us around bear activity, please email [email protected].
